After discovering that he would be separated from his beloved master, Monk Gysatso, Aang fled his home in the Southern Air temple. Narrowly escaping a violent storm, the young avatar began to wander the world, unable to accept his destiny. With war on the horizon, will the avatar overcome his fear and stop the Fire Nation?"
We are an alternate universe role play based upon Avatar: The Last Airbender. In our version of the story, Aang is never trapped inside of an Iceberg and must face his destiny in his own time. Our story begins in the spring, shortly after Aang flees the temple and avoids a deadly storm. Unaware of the comet that will empower the Fire Nation at the end of summer, the Avatar is completely unprepared to assume his duties.

Welcome to Avatar Alternate Universe! We are an intermediate+ role playing community based on the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Our site takes place 100 years before the events of the animated series, so you don't necessarily need to have any knowledge of the show (just be warned that spoilers about events taking place before the war are fair game here.)
Within the spoiler tags you will find the contextual information you need to play here!
In the Avatar Universe there are four seasons, four elements, and four nations. In order to maintain the balance, the Avatar was created. The Avatar is born and reborn again and again, each time taking the form of a member of a different nation (following the cycle of Earth-Spring, Fire- Summer, Air- Fall, and Water- Winter in a continuous cycle). Unlike other members of the four nations, who can only master the use of the element that their nation belongs to, the Avatar was capable of mastering them all. The last Avatar was a member of the Fire Nation, and long time best friend of this guy (until he let him die!)...
...Fire Lord Sozin
So why would Sozin watch as his best pal in the whole world, Avatar Roku, died in a fire? Opportunity, that is why! Sozin is the leader of the Fire Nation and has a grand vision to unite the world under his culture. In their adult prime, Sozin tried to convince Avatar Roku that the current state of the outside world was in dire need of Fire Nation leadership. The Earth Kingdom had never truly recovered from years of raids and tyranny by Chin the Conqueror, the Air Nomads cared little for the affairs of the world, and the Water Tribes had been divided due to issues of gender inequality.
Avatar Roku was completely against his friend's wild idea, in his eyes the four nations were meant to be separate and that each of their cultures were unique! The Avatar and Sozin didn't speak again for many years, and a bitterness grew inside of Sozin. Roku was supposed to be his best friend, and a subject of the Fire Nation. Eventually, Sozin decided to go about his plan anyways, and began establishing colonies into Earth Kingdom territories. Roku was infuriated at what Sozin had done, and here is what happened.

After that, Roku didn't have the heart to evict his own people from Earth Kingdom territory, and so the first colonies remained intact. Over time the colonies began to integrate into a mixed community of Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom citizens. Sozin did back off though, although the two didn't speak again until disaster struck Roku's Island home.
Back to present game time, Avatar Roku has been dead for twelve years. The Fire Nation began to recruit heavily in its military, even opening up it's traditional male ranks to women. The Fire Nation's Navy has developed small steam engines that grow in number daily. Fearing the troubling signs of a coming world war, the Air Nomad's were forced to make the Avatar aware of his duties at the young age of twelve. The new Avatar, Aang simply couldn't handle the news that he would have to leave his master, Monk Gyatso, and he ran away.
In the animated series, Aang gets frozen in an iceberg after a freak accident. When he wakes up the world has already been at war for 99 years, what we have changed is that Aang is a part of his original universe with no time travel element.

Next you should pick a nation that you think is the coolest or matches your concept best. I recommend reading about your nation through the bigger guide and maybe just graze over the rest in the Down and Dirty Nation's Guide (you can also give this a look if you don't know which nation you want yet).
