Name: Nuo
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Nation: Air Nomads
Physical Appearance:
A young girl, Nuo’s appearance shows her youth. Her body is slender and appears rather frail. Her skin is a soft shade of peach with a blush constantly present upon her cheeks. Both of her eyes are a deep and light shade of blue. The blue on her eyes is so strong that at times they can appear to be a shade of violet. Her face is framed by two long strands of hair that have been tied into small buns at chest length to prevent them from getting in her way. The rest of her hair hangs back, falling below her knees up just before hitting the ground. She wears an orange bandana on her head. This fabric hides the short and regrowing portions of her hair. Her head use to be half shaved, and as such, one can see the small strands of frayed hair. Using the bandana, the girl attempts to make it look like she simply has short bangs. Nuo’s clothing consists of a traditional woman’s robe with sleeves that hang loosely around her arms in bell like shapes. She wears the usual yellow body suit underneath as well. Between the body suit and the robe is a rustic brown sash that is tied from her chest below her hips, hanging loosely just above her knees in an uneven fold. Her shoes are the typical orange clothe slippers. Oddly enough, she does not wear any form of stockings or socks.
Equipment:
Nuo’s equipment mostly consists of items she uses when travelling. As such, the girl carries a small canteen filled with water as well as a small pouch of medical supplies. She also carries a small bag of nuts and various other food items to carry her over between meals. Nuo carries a small brush along with various small vials of paints. She writes in a journal with these. She typically carries a long and smooth wooden flute that plays smooth notes. Along side her bamboo flute, Nuo carries a string instrument, a dark brown Pipa and a bronze Yunluo, several small gongs on a wooden handle, to complete her ability to preform songs of all types.
Combat Skills:
Nuo’s only real fighting skill seems to be air bending. She is rather poor at martial arts on its own. As such, if anything ever happens, she always falls back to her bending. Her combat style is typical of an air bender, relying on pushing air to move herself elegantly around an opponent in circular motions to avoid any hits. Her skill in bending is top notch, however, she seems to lack the creativity or will to do anything beyond moving herself and her opponents with the wind. Nuo doesn’t do many fancy tricks or high tier attacks. While her control of the air itself is near perfect, her ability to apply it in advanced techniques and stunning attacks seems to be lacking. As such, one will usually find her a difficult opponent to land hits on as she dances around them, but they will rarely find themselves even getting hit by her.
Talents:
Nuo is a very talented dancer and singer. She is capable of weaving stories through her music and dancing. Her ability to play the flute is also very pleasant. Nuo’s control of her air bending allows for her to even play the flute with the use of air during her dances, allowing for her to sing as she performs. The majority of her performances are often done during pilgrimages. Her songs are typically of folk stories from Air Nomad tradition. She performs them in an attempt to educate others of the Air Nomad culture.
Nuo is known to be very knowledgeable of Air Nomad history and folklore, evident by her music and songs. She is actually very intelligent, capable of memorizing scrolls of history in one sitting. Her sharp wit extends to her capacity as a spiritual individual. However, despite her intelligence, her air bending skill seems to have been stunted by something psychological within her mind. Still, the girl continues to study the Air Nomad legends faithfully and takes great pleasure in meditation. She is capable of meditating deeply and becoming in tune with the planet- something that has lead to other unusual things in her life.
A usually hidden talent of Nuo’s is that she’s one of the few people capable of communicating with and perceiving spirits in the physical world. Of course, she can only so do in locations where the barriers between the spiritual world and the physical world are weakened or when an especially powerful spirit has entered the physical world. Despite these abilities, she has little to no interest in communing with spirits, believing that to be the avatar’s job. Her talent also extends to being very in tune with the chi that flows through the earth, allowing her to sense when there are disturbances in individuals or something terribly wrong with the world as a whole. Of course, as she is not the avatar, her abilities are fairly limited. For the most part, Nuo is only capable of being a passive observer to most things spiritual and chi related and is unable to affect them herself. She is known to at times channel chi and visions through her music and dance in a method not too unlike shamans in which she taps into the planet’s heartbeat.
Flaws:
Nuo has a fear of heights. The sight of being high above the ground is enough to paralyze her with fear. Because her fear is mostly sight based, she is capable of living in the air temples as long as she does not peer down over the edge of the cliffs. As such, if she cannot see the long drop, Nuo is capable of flying on bisons with her eyes covered. However, because of this fear, she is incapable of using a wooden staff for flight and does not even bother to carry one with her. Due to this, Nuo often travels on foot or by boat instead of through traditional Air Nomad methods. She uses the excuse of wanting to meet more people by going on foot to hide the fact that she’s afraid of heights. Nuo also is rather lack luster towards air bending in general. The girl seems to be somewhat hesitant in her skills, believing her only talents of worth are those involving singing and dancing. As such, Nuo hesitates in combat, usually only being capable of avoiding attacks while being unable to deal any. As with her fear of heights, she uses an excuse to cover her weakness, calming that her combat style is that way to remain as pacifistic as possible.
History:
Nuo was born in the Eastern Air Temple on a fair autumn day. Like all other children, she was taken from her parents and raised amongst the others born during that current year. She was raised within the air temple, and the girl assisted in caring for the bison there from a young age. Her days were spent meditating, practicing her air bending and playing with the bison. Ever since she was younger, Nuo showed a rather calm and graceful personality type. She was very in tune with the natural world around her, and she would often sneak off to ride the bisons alone during the night with her best friend, Nao. During her time at the Eastern Air Temple, Nuo dreamt of becoming the next Bison master. She would spend hours talking to her friend about the bison and how amazing they were. Nao, however, had other ideas of how the two should spent their days.
When they both turned eight, Nao suggested they volunteer for a pilgrimage. Nuo was unsure of whether or not the two should go. While it wasn’t unheard of for younger children to go with the others on these trips, she much more preferred staying in the Eastern Air Temple and meditating than travelling across the planet. However, with Nao’s persistence, she eventually heeded into her idea and volunteered along with her. As such, the two left the air temple at the age of eight to begin travelling with the older air benders. Nuo wound up enjoying herself and continued to go on pilgrimages with Nao and others often while learning more of Air Nomad culture through the songs that were sung as they travelled.
At the age of thirteen, Nuo and Nao began their final pilgrimage together. They were going to the Southern Air temple to witness the Winter Solstice together for the first time. However, at the time, Nuo’s spiritual abilities had not been known by anyone. As such, during their trip to the air temple, Nuo felt herself growing faint during meditation as the veil between the spiritual and physical world became thin, bolstered. Luckily, the older air nomads noticed and ordered Nao to take her out of the air temple until the next day. However, as Nao directed the bison to take her and the faint Nuo out of the air temple, something happened. Nuo could see something in the haze of her vision. Panicked, she grabbed the reins of the bison from Nao and stirred the beast into a flip. Nuo was lucky enough to have been holding onto the reins, but Nao was not. Her staff was too far from her, and the girl plummeted into the canyon below.
After the incident, Nuo refused to settle in any of the four air temples. She didn’t deserve to live in them. The girl decided to live permanently on the road, constantly travelling in an eternal pilgrimage. When the young Avatar ran away from the Southern Air Temple, Nuo was requested to go find him. She travelled often, despite the threat of war. As such, they trusted her to find the boy and return him.
Personality:
Nuo is a very respectful girl. She will always try to be thoughtful towards the will of others. However, her true nature is of being completely honest, even if her honesty is inappropriate. As such, she will often have to catch herself before saying something rude. Nuo truly tries her hardest to be as polite and respectful as possible while being fully aware of how blunt she can be at times. The girl seems to have inherited the spirituality of the Air Nomads, however, she doesn’t seem to have gotten much else. Nuo is very uptight for an Air Nomad, finding herself trying to keep to schedules and balances very strictly. Despite being very interested in dancing and music, she isn’t very fond of jokes. Nuo will often find herself dancing or humming along to anything musical without realizing. In fact, even during times where she’s trying to be serious, one can find her foot tapping to a hidden beat. There have been instances of people trying to push her out of her serious moods by humming songs to get her to hum along. She seems to be unable to resist most musical related things.
Nuo has a fear of heights and of getting close to others from the incident with her friend Nao. Ever since that day, whenever she sees herself high above, the girl can’t help but view Nao plummeting into the abyss. As such, she has taken to the Air Nomad notion of detachment much more than others often do. In fact, the elder Air Nomads are concerned that her growth in the air bending has become stinted from her lack of attachment to anything, including her own life. Ever since Nao's death, she has even stopped shaving the hair from her head. The only thing she seems to have any attachment to is her flute. Most will agree the girl only truly comes to life when playing her music.

The sound of a flute could be heard throughout the area along with the rustling of trees and the chirping of birds. The sky was rather clear, save for a cloud or two that hung in the distance. Accompanying the ever present sound of music, one could hear gentle footsteps moving along the gravel path. The one playing the flute was a young girl in billowing orange and auburn cloth that marked her as an Air Nomad. However, her hair was long and flowing unlike most Air Nomads. The strands of dark hair contrasted against her autumn colors like ink on paper. The sound of her flute slowly died as she lowered the instrument from her lips, gazing up at the sky.
The distant clouds were moving closer. The darkness of their colors hinted at an approaching storm coming from the south. The girl clicked her tongue in annoyance. That wasn’t good. She’d have to find shelter and wait out the rain. Sliding her flute into her sash, the girl looked around. Having to stop for a while wasn’t that big of a deal in theory. She had left the previous village a day earlier than anticipated, so time certainly wasn’t an issue with this stop. A soft sigh escaped her lips as she spoke softly to herself. ”Well, Nuo, I guess we won’t be able to get an early start.”
Nuo stretched her arms up as she continued down the path. The original intention for leaving the village early was to get to the next one with enough time to relax for a day before preforming once more. Her plan seemed to have been foiled by Mother Nature. Sighing, the girl continued onward to find shelter for the night. If Nuo was lucky, the storm wouldn't last too long and she'd be able to get to the next village by tomorrow. If that happened, she'd be able to arrive at the Southern Air Temple by the end of the week. Her reasons for going to the Air Temple were odd. Normally, she avoided that temple in particular. However, there was a nagging feeling in the back of her mind, like something was conspiring there. She had to go check it out.
