Name: Nix Lily Night
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Nation: The Water Tribe (Northern)
Physical Appearance: Nix has her fathers red hair, its bright and it gets her a lot of attention which is not always a good thing. She has always found it hard to put on weight due to her past, which means she is nearly always slim but there was easy to see muscles on her body. She has had to grow strong from her harder tasks and the training that Jark put her through. She has 2 scars on the forearm of both her arms however, and bright green eyes that descend from her mother.
As for clothes. Well nix never had much choice before she ran away from her first home, though once she had a “parent” who cared for her it changed. Nix will not wear what most of her tribes females wear, she sticks to a simple black shirt and black trousers but she cannot leave her heritage totally. She will always wear a simple purple tunic from her nation, happy to display it with her clashing hair from a very different nation. She also had a matching ribbon which came from her mother when she was a child which she uses to keep her hair back when she is bending, the one time she feels connected to her parents.
Equipment: Nix has very limited items. She has her mothers ribbon, the clothes on her back and a water pouch from her close friend as a gift when she fled the northern tribe. That is it, her travels have not given her very much to keep aside a single small hunting knife she traded her water-bending services for.
Combat Skills: Nix was taught to bend by herself at first, she was sloppy and not good but it was all she had to connect to her parents. When she fled her aunt and uncles, she almost froze to death and it was a sign to her to give in. Once found (explained below), she was offered the chance to learn under Jark, a master in his time who was teaching his son, in exchange for her to not give up and allow herself to die. She is “good” at water bending, but she doesn’t hold focus well. She can of course bend and she can do most moves, the water whip and she’s known well for “ice shards” but bigger moves that require her to focus totally….totally out of her league
Talents: Nix is/has become very agile. Her travels and discovery of forests has lead her to spend much time within them, and thus she had built up her arms and her legs and become oddly agile which shocked even her. - She also, as much as she hates it, is a very good cook. She has an ability to add things together and mix with with herbs and other odd items to created something wonderful. Though she does hate this as she thinks of it as a "womens" skill and her tribe forced those skills on to her. She also is very good at foraging, considering she never knew about berries before now she made it a note to learn which she should and should get
Flaws:Nix is very very very stubborn. Like, she can even work out shes wrong and will keep on marching and going just because it was the way shes picked! She also has a very big issues really trusting people down to her past, so she can seem aggressive or cold for no reason but its down to the fact she doesn’t want to like or trust you because its never ended well before. The other issue is that nix is of the Fire Nation and Water Tribe, a cross of both. Shes adaptable but she also has a temper, and her bending is directly linked to her anger. This is something she is certain comes from her father and his element but she isn't sure, add to that the fact it makes her very aggressive but she's cold form the distrust and unable to open up to people and it doesnt end very well!
History: Nix’s story begins with her parent’s stories. Her mother was the younger of two girls and her sister was arranged to be married to another water tribe male and this idea scared Lila to death. She was 12 when her elder sister, Amii, was wed at age 17. Of course this meant someone was needed for Lila now.
On the other side of the world, Zuran was also a second child. His elder brother was, like Lila’s sister, accepting of the life that their culture said they needed to do. He joined the army and went in to fight and within 6 months, he died. Not at the hand of anyone or in a real fight, the boy died of disease from travelling to the earth kingdom and not knowing he was ill until it had really set in. It was never explained to Zuran how or why it happened but now he had to join. He did not want to, it was not his way, but he had no choice. Age 16, he was assigned a mission to kill a certain high power individual and the boy panicked. He fled the army, fully knowing that being found again would mean his death.
What’s the furthest place from the fire nation? The place hardest to get to? Zuran shaved his head and covered it with the juice from dark berries and managed to sneak himself in to the north water tribe, and as stories go, a boy met a girl and they fell.
No one liked it, berry juice cannot hide hair that red. But by the time that Lila’s family truly found out about their daughter and the man she had chosen, the girl was with child. Lila was forced to remain in her room and Zuran was turned over to the leaders of the tribe, though life is not kind.
Lila bore her child, a little girl with bright eyes and brighter hair, and lila did something very foolish but predictable. A young girl in love follows her heart, however, fleeing to see her chosen mate did not end well. Zuran was banished, Lila beside him, and the fire nation was waiting. Age 19 and 21, their baby 3 months old, both were found and by the fire nation. Their fate is unknown, nix thinks they are dead
Back in Nix’s timeline, her aunt and uncle took in the baby and raised it for what they thought would be a week. Lila never came back, and they were stuck with the child. They were not children people, they did not like the child and worse than that, nix was clearly odd. Of course the tribe were very set in their ways, so a child of a fire nation and water tribe couple was doomed from the beginning. As she grew up, she was not fed well. As she got older, she was given all the tasks that her family did not want. She became somewhat slave that they didn’t need to care for.
Nix grew up cold, hungry, thin and she never knew she could bend until she turned 11. She had cut herself once again when making the meal for her family and she placed her hands in water to clean the blood, only for it to glow at her touch and the cuts to heal across the top. Her eyes shot up and she felt something she hadn’t felt before, like her parents were there and were proud of her for finally finding this out. Though, it didn’t stay well. Upon telling her aunt she could water bend, both her uncle and aunt being unable to, it ended badly. Nix was beaten, nix was hurt with the comment – “well heal that then”
This got worse over the next month before her uncle, driven to drink by the fact that this fire nation child who showed so much more of the wrong nations personality was able to water bend, came come drunk. A sharp knife and a child that he had always hated, well, it ended with nix’s arms cut open and her uncle slashed through with water when she tried to defend herself. Losing blood and knowing staying here meant only worse things, she pushed open the front door she had never been allowed out behind and she ran away in the darkness of the night.
Freezing conditons and blood loss, they do not end well for a child. Nix passed out after only a few blocks, which when you considered she barely ate too was a shock in itself. She was however found and dealt a kind hand.
Jark and his wife Euyi (ee-you) had one son, a waterbender boy named Koda. The boy was out, returning home once night to see a girl with red seeping from her arms and what he assumed was the same from her head too. He ran home to tell his father, who came out to find the girl and took her home. She was thin, she was weak, her face was pale and within 2 days, it became clear she did not want to live. She would not eat, she would not drink and only ever moved her hands but this was to water bender tiny drops of water around her fingers. Within 5 days, she was at deaths door, her face sunken and her hair even more vivid against her almost white skin. Jark made a decision. He offered to teach her to water bend, like he was teaching his son to do if only she didn’t give up and allow herself to die. Of course the girl, speaking for the first time since being found, said that he couldn’t. Women couldn’t learn.
“No-one should die for something they don’t believe, if you are doing to die, die for something important”
No one had ever shown nix kindness, she didn’t want to trust these people but she could also see something there. They were pretending. She started to eat again and she began to progress, her weight finally coming on and color returning to her. When she was healed after a month or two, jark was good to his word. He taught her simple things, to control her breathing and to move the water from one place to another. It moved on with his son, teaching the pair together as if they were both his own children. Of course this was done in secret without anyone knowing of it and nix wasnt allowed to tell anyone she knew who to do anything aside healing, since she wasnt to learn under the trides normal rules. It was at this time that nix was first taken outside and shown to the world, her bright hair standing out among the others of her race but her eyes shining through her heritage. She started to find eyes on her everywhere, but no one would ever hurt her again like she had been and so she no longer cared what people thought. As her water bending grew stronger, it seemed something caught someone’s eye.
Nix came home, 16 years old for only a few weeks, and found Jark standing at the door with another man she did not know. Apparently, marriage’s were being discussed. A girl with red hair, a prize among some it seemed. But Jark had another choice, one he knew no-one wanted but it was better. The man waiting at the door was shouting, he was saying that nix wore nothing to say she was due to wed but jark was replying that his son was and always would have been her husband. Nix felt betrayed, she had trusted this man and his wife and now she thought they had just been lining her up to be a prize for their son to marry. She turned away, with nothing but her clothes and what she carried and started backwards. She crossed Koda as she walked away and he asked why she was not at home, she told him she had somewhere else to go and he offered her his water pouch. Being raised beside someone lets you see their plans before they never know themselves, nix took the ouch and by the time she reached the city wall, she knew why. Taking what she had, she left the city.
She didn’t know where she was going, she managed to get on to a cargo boat that was going for supplies at a local port. She stepped off it in to a fishing town and started walking, no money and no food but her natural water bending skills and her determination pushing her onwards. As she travelled, she exchanged her water bending skills for items at times. Often items she swapped for food aside one, a knife she was gifting for aiding a earth kingdom couple with cleaning their stream by their home.
Personality: Nix is complex. She will seem aggressive or cold most of the time because she doesn’t like to open herself up to people but this can shift, and its down to protection. Because of the abuse and pain nix has been through, she is very defensive. She will jump to the aid of someone if she thinks they need help or she will go out of her way to help people, even if she doesn’t know them or they aren’t a person she would normally care for. On that front, pretty girls who hang out in groups or men who want a girl for looks or power – she’ll hate you! Hence having to leave the northern tribe, not her taste and the girl is so stubborn she would rather leave everything she knows and understands and go out in to the big confusing world where she can be herself.
Pet: (Doesn’t have one – planning on buying her one)
Writing Sample:Nix sat with bright eyes trained on the road, she could hear footsteps. She pressed herself back in to the shadows of the tree she had managed to climb, slipping a little now and then but her shoes were beginning to give now so that was to be expected. The figured moved down the path without a look towards her, so she allowed herself to drop from her hiding place and she turned back to look up the path. No-one else. She nodded and turned to walk on after the other person when she saw them turn, her hands flicked up and water wrapped around her from the pouch on her belt and she watched with wary eyes. They turned and she could see their body, wrapped in a cloak which covered their head and she could she their head tip to one side. A water bender? In a forest? With red hair? So much of it clashed, and yet, as nix thought this to herself, she smirked a little. Wonderfully odd.[/center]
