Name: Wei Shen
Age: 10
Gender: Male
Nation: Earth Kingdom (South), Si Wong Desert
Physical Appearance:
Wei Shen is a young boy whom hails from the Southern edge of the Earth Kingdom. He has light brown hair that reaches near shoulder length and the same tint of eye color. He has a very gentle complexion and even for his young age, is considered short and somewhat thin. He has a very light build but growing up in the harsh desert has allowed him to have developed a very tough exterior. His skin tone is a few shades dark than olive, no doubt a result from the blistering heat in the Si Wong Desert.
Wei is clothed in a tattered dark brown cloak, he is rarely seen without it as it is his constant protection from the heat. When he is able to remove it however, the boy wears a tattered white undershirt with red trimmings along the neck and waist. He is also dressed in baggy pants, both legs have a fair amount of tears along the legs however the worn out article of clothing still retain their taupe coloration. Slung across his shoulder is a white duffle bag, which holds a small canteen of water, a sleeping bag and a few medicinal ointments. Wei, though he has grown up in the extreme heat, still wears wooden sandals to avoid the soles of his feet being burned, his fingers are covered in white wrappings, as he is constantly working.
Equipment:
Wei considers his duffle bag his life line, it contains emergency rations should he ever get lost in the vast sea of sand. Inside the bag is a small circular shaped canteen that carries up to a litre and a half of fresh water. Along with this, he has his sleeping bag and a few medicinal ointments should he injure his hands whilst away on a job. The last object the boy considers precious to him is a simple carved walking stick, it is embroided with the Earth Kingdom symbol on the head and has a few spirals carved into it to allow him a good grip. This walking stick has been with him for many a year and is one of the few possesions his uncle ever allowed him to have.
Combat Skills:
Though he is not what would be described as a physical specimen, Wei is familiar with basic self defense techniques. He is not a martial art practitioner though he very well knows how to impliment hold and chokes to neautralize an aggressive attacker. He is not above striking an opponent in the groin or tossing a handful of dirt into the eyes to make a hasty retreat.
When it comes to the bending skills, Wei is a novice in this area as well. He has recently managed to make a few pebbles raise into the air though he does not yet have a firm grasp on the seemingly impossible task of Earth bending. The boy had been raised by his uncle who was nothing but a simple tour guide through the desert, with no one to teach him how, Wei struggles to learn on his own.
Restricted Powers:
General- Limited motion bending. For example the ability to bend Earth with your chin. Required for motionless bending.
Adept Level Bending Wei Shen
Talents:
Wei is not a master of anything and knows very little techniques; however he is a dedicated learner who strives to find teachers to help him acheive. For his young age, he is quite the knowledgable tour guide, he has an excellent sense of direction, almost a 6th sense if you will. Wei is also known to be someone who is easy to travel with, this is due to the fact that he is a very quiet individual, he only speaks when spoken to. Finally, though he is small and not as built as others, his upbringing has made him one of the toughest wanderers, he can survive against harsh climates with very little problem.
Flaws:
Wei is young and with very little contact with people, he is quite naive and easy to manipulate given the right circumstances. An example is most often shown in the trades he conducts with people, he will trade his currency for rocks that catch his eye or that are "shiny".
Wei is dedicated to working as a tour guide like his uncle, the constant abuse of having to wander the desert has taken a toll on his body. He is thin and eats very little, his hands are constantly bandaged from grasping his walking stick and needing to climb over blistering hot rocks in order to find his tourists a safe place to traverse.
The boy can also be frustrated easily, the is shown most effictively through his trouble with Earth bending, if he cannot quite grasp the concept he will try to force it out, making him angry and upset with himself.
History:
Wei Shen originally resided within the walls of the Northern Kingdom, more specifically the walls of Ba Sing Se. He had lived within the city for the first three years of his life and has no recollection of whom his parents were. His uncle, Xian Shen, had told him that with the Fire Nations idea of invading The Earth Kingdoms territory, his family fled in fear. Wei has little to no idea of just how he and his uncle ended up in the Si Wong desert but when he asks his uncle to explain, he simply tells the boy, "focus on moving forward, don't let your curiosity hold you back." At the age of 8 Wei went on with his uncle to see just how a tour guide works in the desert, it is a grueling job, requiring the guide to be physically and mentally indomitable.
Wanting to help his increasingly aging uncle with his work, Wei began to accompany his uncle Xian more often, eventually he had walked the path so often, he began to lead the tour. Wei is now able to go out on his own, though his uncle worries constantly, the boy has proven himself to be mature as his surprised tourists find themselves being led through the harsh terrain by a small child.
Personality:
Wei is a very quiet child, most boys his age would be running around playing with other children, due to the lack of human contact, he is just recently becoming familiar with any sort of conversation apart from his uncle.
The only trade he had practiced was becoming a tour guide just like his uncle, it seems that doing this has impacted his personality as he is most familiar with speaking when asked a question. He will usually reply with short answers but if asked to go into greater detail he will find himself slowly beginning to get lost in conversation. In his free time, Wei tends to his elderly uncles needs and practices earth bending, though he has no one to teach him, he finds it increasingly difficult with the most basic of techniques.
