    The students of the Fire Nation Military School had been given a rare opportunity. By request of the Royal Palace, the school and its students would be sent to the colonies of the Fire Nation in order to aid the Governor in getting his education standards up to par. The instructors would be using the students of the school as an example of the discipline that the Fire Lord will soon expect of all Fire Nation schools. The large metal Fire Navy cruiser that carried them across the sea was heavily modified so that it could accommodate the students as a school while they traveled abroad. On top of regular education, the students were exposed to naval life and held small duties such as keeping the ship spic and span.

    The cruiser moved quickly over the waters, and after a half days travel the colony of Yu Dao was soon in the sites of the ship.

    "Flameyo!" Kuzon exclaimed as he stood near the bow of the ship. He was full of excitement over seeing the Earth Kingdom for himself. "How long will it take to get there?"

    "It will take about an hour." replied a fire navy sailor with a gruff unpleasant voice, also looking toward the coast. "Now quit your yapping and swab the deck."

    "Awe man." Kuzon said but caught a mean glimpse from the sailor. "I m-m-mean, yes sir!" Kuzon said grinning cheekily as he got back down onto the deck and continued to scub the floor with a wirey brush and water.

    He must have been day dreaming longer than he had thought, because his bucket of water had grown cold. Taking a deep breath, Kuzon threw his fist toward the bucket and a small ember struck it. After a few moments the water was warm again and he was ready to continue cleaning.

Linh meandered down the dirt street towards the courtyard. She couldn’t help but admire the fire nation architecture. Each roof seemed to have unique overhanging eaves characterized by upturned corners and colorful tiles. The effect couldn’t be found anywhere in the Foggy Swamp, where makeshift huts of dirt and vines were purely functional. This place was a center of culture and wealth.

She reached the courtyard and looked around. There were vendor stalls lined up along the edges and a small band of nomads played in the center near a large statue of a man. Linh noticed quite a few Fire Nation Soldiers walking around the market, but they seemed to be invisible to the shoppers. The pirate wondered about this but decided the people here must have grown accustomed to their presence over the years.

Linh was not comfortable around anyone who represented the law. Especially when she was carrying illegal substances she had cultivated in her greenhouse. She knew she wouldn’t be able to sell her wares in the market and began looking for someplace less reputable where she might play a friendly game of Pai Sho.

Hmm. Hmmm. Hmmmm.

Where in the world was he? Benjiro stood in the middle of an unfamiliar street, looking around him and rubbing his head as he looked things over. Fire nation architecture? Earth Nation people and Fire Nation people? Did he drink more cactus juice then he thought? Well, things seemed real enough, and there was even an area where people seemed to be selling their wares. Walking over to the venders and looking around, Benjiro wondered over past a few of them and noticed the nomads performing by a fountain.

Now that was his sort of scene, and pulling out a red crystal and blue crystal Benjiro placed them both on his upper arms and waited for the creeping crystal to attach themselves to his skin. With that done, Benjiro walked over to the nomads and began to move around in a fire bender fashion before striking out in an earth bender manner. He continued this performance, moving in a manner like an air bender, fire bender, or water bender, before finishing up with different earth bender strikes. When a small crowd gathered, Benjiro went and mimicked a fire bender technique, shooting out a red crystal sand in a manner similar to fire, the sand reflecting light and appearing more like fire.

He would bend the crystal sand along the ground and to his feet, before turning around in a spinning motion and mimicking a water bender move. This time blue crystal sand flowing out from his sleeve and slithering through the air before striking the ground and hardening into a crystal formation as if it was ice. People clapped and oohed loudly at the performance, and coins were being tossed to the bender and the nomads, though only small coins and extra change. Each time he would strike with another bending move, be it fire or water, Benjiro used the sand like a conveyor, pulling the currency behind him.

It was quite the show, and was drawing a decent crowd. Even if the moves he was mimicking weren't perfect, it was still enough to get the money he wanted.

As the ship prepared to make dock with the city of Yu Dao, Kuzon and the other boys of the Fire Nation lined up into rows of threes. Their were at least forty children in this formation, and Kuzon was able to strategically place himself in the back so that he would be less noticeable to the grumpy instructors. It was a peaceful spring day with a partly cloudy overcast, the sun shone through the clouds making the atmosphere bright and peaceful. The city beyond was bustling with activity, and Kuzon couldn't help but peak his head out to the side of the formation to get a look at it.

As the Fire Nation cruiser entered the harbor it was just one among many. There was no gathering of people other than a few Fire Nation sailors who were on the pier helping to guide the ship into dock. As soon as the ramp was lowered the instructors whistled and the first long row of children departed, followed by the second, and finally finished with the third row that Kuzon belonged to. Barely able to fit on the pier, the formation of young boys stood in a disciplined manner awaiting word from their instructor.

"You will stay in formation as we march through the city market. You will be on your best behavior or you will be lashed until the Fire Lord himself can hear your cries!" The cruel instructor chimed. He was an older man with a bald head and a dark goatee and a large physique. "Now... March!"

The boys marched in unison, left foots and right foots all together as one. Kuzon struggled in the back to keep pace, often stepping on the wrong foot. The boys had quickly become a spectacle, it was normal to see Fire Nation soldiers running around but it was considered an oddity to see Fire Nation School children walking down the streets of the market.

As the marched Kuzon turned his head left and right, clearly less disciplined than most of the other boys. He wasn't the only one who wasn't paying attention, but he was the most obvious about it. He was wearing a fire nation military school uniform, a mostly black tunic with red accents and a popped circular collar. As the uniformed boys marched through the district something caught his eye.

A strange man in an Earth Kingdom garb was using some strange sort of bending to put on a show. He was bending every kind of element! But that couldn't be possible, he had met the Avatar when he was a younger boy at the age of ten. On closer inspection he realized that he was actually bending some strange material.

Kuzon hadn't realized he had stopped. Looking away from the spectacle he suddenly realized that his group was gone, and he couldn't see them anymore. The crowd of the market was thick and they must have made a turn somewhere. Shrugging, the boy decided to make the most out of what would likely end up being a severe beating in his near future. He approached the strange bender and got as close as he could. Digging in his pocket he pulled out a small bit of Fire Nation currency and tossed it toward Benjiro.

As the young pirate crossed the courtyard of Yu Dao she noticed an odd spectacle. A man was performing what she could only guess were magic tricks. At first she thought he was using multiple elements, but as she edged closer she realized it must be some unique form of sand bending. What really interested her was the number of coins the crowd was dropping at his feet.

Linh looked around the crowd, trying to decide if anyone would notice her grabing the money with her vines. Suddenly, she caught sight of a face in the crowd that didn’t seem to belong. He was a pudgy fire nation school boy who seemed lost. He seemed an easy mark and she assumed that someone would pay to get him back.

Linh squeezed through the crowd until she stood nonchalantly near the boy. She stooped down and smiled, extending her vines to scoop up a few coins. Her voice was rough from years on the sea, but she spoke in soothing tones, “Ahoy dere, stranger. Ya look as if yer sails be up in a wind storm. Come wid me and I’ll find yer port.”

It was a good crowd. A good crowd brought good money. Good money would bring a decent place to sleep, clean water, and some tasty food bits. All and all, Benjiro was happy, and he was going to keep up his show a little longer, as long as the coins kept coming in. He decided to move onto some more advanced moves, at least what he considered more advanced moves, and he allowed the jennamite to grow down his arms, before he turned both parts mostly into sand and let it settle on the ground in front of him. Moving his hands in a swirling motion, he began to twist the crystal sand into a miniature dust devil of sorts, swirling it around on the ground in front of him.

From there he slowly moved the mini-twister into the air and began to swirl it around, forming it into a ball as he began to spin it around faster and faster. Soon, the sand shimmered of reds and blues as it slowly condensed down into a smaller and smaller size. In the center of the swirling sands, two small orbs were being created, and within a few more moments, the sand was gone, but two crystal orbs now floated in front of Benjiro. Moving an orb to float above each hand, the Sand Bender swirled them around each other slowly and started to combine them in the middle until finally, there was a single crystal orb with a mixture of blue and red shimmering brightly in it.

People oohed and awed some more, and Benjiro lifted up for all too see, before tossing it into the Fountain behind him. The crystal wouldn't last too long in the water, and at the very least would become unable to grow anymore for now. Giving a bow to those who watched, Benjiro began to retrieve the coins and watched as one strangely began to be pulled away by a vine. Quickly taking the remaining coins and hopefully splitting them evenly between him and the nomads, Benjiro followed the source of the vine, crawling on the ground after it and watching it make its way back to its source.

"Oi oi oi... thats my coin." Benjiro said, using his bending to push himself off the ground and pointing to the single coin on the vine. "That one I earned square and square." The Sand Bender said, before blinking and shaking his head. "Fair and Square." He corrected himself, before fuming a little bit. "I want it."

Kuzon's eyes grew wide and beamed at the lovely woman who had approached him. His heart throbbed and he soon lost interest in anything else, his cheeks growing a bright red. She was a slender lady that was much older than Kuzon with light hair wearing a blue getup with her flat belly exposed. Her dialect was so strange that Kuzon couldn't really tell what she was saying, but his heart was telling him that it was true love!

"Uuhhhh, you... and me?" Kuzon mumbled with his tongue tied, pacing in place nervously. He was so nervous. She seemed like she wanted him to go with her, man was Kuzon smooth!

Shortly after the man who had put on the show approached, and he didn't catch what he said at first. He only heard "That one I earned square and square."

Oh no! This guy was trying to steal his sweet new lady friend, he must have been jealous of Kuzon because he was so great at picking up older women.

The vines retreated back into Linh’s sleeve, concealing several stolen coins. She couldn’t help smirking as the boy seemed more excited about being taken captive then she could have hoped. She was beginning to think this would be the easiest money she had ever made. Then the sand performer began accusing her of theft. He seemed confused and Linh suspected he was probably on something.

As she stood to face the earth-kingdom man she extended her left leg out to the side and brought her foot to a point like a dancer. She leaned to the side so her hips jutted out to the right. She continued smirking as she spoke, “Sorry laddie, de sea ain’t fair nor square an’ I be wantin' it more.” Linh shifted her weight to the other leg and as her hips swung around to the left a large wave leapt from the fountain behind the sand bender.

The pirate didn’t wait to see if the high pressure spray had hit him. Instead she turned and began leading the school boy away from the crowd. She hoped to reach the water’s edge before anyone caught up.

Benjiro huffed and puffed a bit at the Water Bender Pirate, staring at her and at the coin slowly disappearing into her sleeve. "That coin... I want... that coin..." Benjiro said, eye twitching a little bit. It was an insignificant, pointless, almost no purpose coin... and Benjiro wanted it! He wasn't really the most clear headed when it came to things when Cactus Juice was on the mind. He was stubborn, a little crazy, and not really even paying attention to much else, so when the water struck him on the back, the ground came up really close.

A moment of silence came from Benjiro, as the Earth Bender tried to figure out why his face and chest hurt, why his legs and arms were wet, and why things were messed up. Pushing himself up a little bit and looking around, Benjiro noticed the woman and boy heading out somewhere, and he wasn't very pleased with his current situation. His one coin... that one coin... he wanted it!!!!!!

With that, Jennamite grew out from his sleeves, cutting the sleeves of the shirt off from the sleeves down, red on one arm and blue on the other. Lifting both his arms and swinging them from side to side, the Jennamite thick on his arms, Benjiro looked at them, a little confused. "When did I become... oh... ooooooh... oh yeh." He said with a bit of a laugh, before he heard some shouts from behind him. Looking back, Fire Nation Soldiers pointed over at him and called out too him, but Benjiro was not in the mood for police troubles.

Looking for the woman again, Benjiro ran off after her, now and then the jennamite from his arms scrapping along the ground as they grew up his shoulders and down his sides. The shield on his back even was slowly being covered as well. "My hard earned coin!" He called out, unhappy with the entire situation.

"So uhhh... my name is Kuzon!" he murmured to the lady, and it was only now that he noticed the vegetation that was coming out of her arm. Whoa! What happened to her arm? Kuzon thought to himself. Best I not mention anything about her weird plant arm or she won't want to date me anymore.

"So lady, wut is your name anyways? Shouldn't we get to know each other a little bit?" Kuzon asked. He couldn't help but admire the strange ladies figure as she was leading him through the crowd. I must be the luckiest kid in the world, ut then again I am freakishly handsome and she probably has some self esteem issues because of her weird green arm though Kuzon thought to himself quietly.

He was absorbed in his own weird fantasy at this point, and he wasn't quite aware of what was going on behind them.

As Linh strode quickly towards the waters edge she noticed the boy was talking to her. He seemed to have the wrong idea about his situation, but for now that played to her favor. He asked for her name, but Linh didn't want to mention it on the off chance that he had seen one of her wanted pictures. "Arr..." She said thinking hard, "Me name's Jade." It wasn't too far from the truth. Her nickname among the pirates was the Jade Octopus because of her green vines and water bending skills.

They were nearing the waters edge when she glanced back and noticed the sand bender following her down the dark alley. He suddenly seemed more intimidating now that he had hard crystals growing on his body. Linh stopped and turned to the side. She slung her hips and arm towards him. At the same moment she extended her fingers and with a flick of the wrist vines shot towards his face. They snapping like a whip just inches away from the bridge of his nose. She didn't really want to hurt him, just throw him off balance. Now that they were away from the crowd she was sure they could come to some kind of arrangement.

"Hold on for a tick" she exclaimed. "I'm as parched as a fish in a cookin' pan." Linh withdrew from her satchel a flask of cactus juice and pretended to take a hearty swig. The liquid dripped down her lips as she pretended to swallow. She didn't dare drink it for fear of getting hooked on the stuff herself.

The water! That was her destination plans! Well, that was what he thought at least.. but why would that be her destination? Benjiro was, at the very least confused somewhat, and with a tilt of his head, made sure to keep the woman and the boy in sight. He must of been in on this as well, the plan to steal Benjiro's coin from him! Right? He had no idea really what the two of them wanted to do with his coin. Either way, he shook his head and focused on the situation before him, the woman the source of all his single coin based issue.

As he moved through the dark alleyway, moving toward the two of them, he watched the water bender move in a manner only for something to snap right in front of him. His eyes went out of focus and he tried to stop in his tracks, but the weight of the jennamite was a little too much at this point in time and he began to stumble. He began to lean forward more and more, his body pulling him forward as his legs tried to stop him. With that, Benjiro tripped over his own feet and curled into a ball, rolling along the ground for several feet before stopping on his back, staring up into the sky.

"Huh... um... hmm... I think... I fell..." Benjiro mused aloud, before pushing himself up into a sitting position and holding his arms on his lap. He blinked a couple times before looking up at the fire nation lad and the woman, moving his gaze between the two. "So... um..." He started, but she asked him to hold on and the Earth Bender sat there, waiting politely for her to finish her drink. It must of been good, whatever it was, for she had a little bit on her lip. After a few moments, Benjiro cleared his throat and reached up one hand, though it was pretty much just crystals now. "I just want my one coin please." He asked, once more being polite.

"Oooh thanks Jade! I am parched too!" Kuzon said greedily grabbing at the flask of what he assumed was just water from Jade, able to get it from her unsuspecting hands. He took a big gulp of the cactus juice and then dropped the flask and his face turned green. He almost regurgitated at the taste of the stuff.

"What on earth was that!" He asked. "It tastes like moose lion puke!" he finished. He wobbled around a little bit and sat down on the ground. "I don't feel so good."

Kuzon looked at the guy in front of him confused. Kuzon had already given him a coin, and it wasn't like Jade had to give him a coin if she wasn't in to his performance.

"Looooook mister, Jade didn't have to give you a tip for your performance!" He said wincing as the world around him started to get blurry...

Linh stood gaping for a moment as she processed what had happened. She had been looking at the strange crystal bender when Kuzon grabbed the flask and took a sip. She knew that pretty soon he would be rolling around on the floor too. She wondered why the stranger was so obsessed with one specific coin. She had taken several. She figured he must have been hitting the juice pretty hard.

Linh reached down and snatched up the flask. "Dis be Cactus Juice ya cargo theivin' salty swab!" She put the lid back on and looked around, making sure no guards were around. She tried to keep calm and quiet the boy, "Now shush 'fore we call to much attention on ourselves." She turned and continued down the alley towards the water.

Soon a large catgator came into view. It had crawled out of the water and onto the street where it began nosing through someone's garbage. "Whiskers!" Linh chided disapprovingly. The catgator snapped playfully at the group.

Benjiro blinked as the boy took the water flask from the woman and simply shook his head. Kids these days had no respect for their elders... or adults... or each others... or babies... evil evil babies. Blinking a bit, coming back from his thoughts, Benjiro watched as Kuzon began to act strangely and he spoke about how the water tasted horrible. The woman seemed to like it well enough, and Benjiro reached over and used a finger to get a bit of the water, using his bending to remove the dust from it before placing his finger in his mouth and tasting it.

"Oh ho! Its ca..." Benjiro started, but then the woman decided to finish his sentence in an angrier manner then he would have done so. "I love that stuff, its tasty ya know?" He added, before showing off his own gourd with the liquid within. He looked at the boy as he spoke about getting a tip and he tipped his head. As Linh started to head onward, Benjiro got to his feet and shed most of the jennamite, turning a majority of it into sand and pushing it for the wind to take.

Giving Kuzon a pat on the back and a helpful movement to follow after the woman, Benjiro now a little more interested in the cactus juice then the coin. As he followed after her, looking around a little bit, he watched as a strange creature rummaged through some garbage. Next, the woman called out what he assumed the creature's name, or possibly something she exclaimed in surprise. The creature then snapped at them. "Huh... well ain't he a big fella... friend of yours?"
