FAQ
Q What is this site?
A We are a fan made role play based upon Avatar: The Last Airbender (the show, not the movie).
Q Why is Aang alive if this site is set back 100 years in the past?
A In our version of the story, Aang was never trapped inside of an ice berg.
Q Why does the ban list prevent me from having red or blonde hair and why can't I have a "normal" name?
A. It just doesn't fit the canon of the game- you should take the opportunity to explore a new ethnicity and culture that you can't really play properly on boards not set in an environment like this. (The long short answer is Orientalism- if you aren't aware of it then you should try to read up on it sometime.)
Q. Why are their so many restricted powers and abilities.
A.
1. There are many reasons for these limitations. First and foremost, restrictions are a necessity in any real game. If every chess piece was a queen and the chess board didn't have any squares, you would just have a big mess. To put it into avatar context, we would probably end up with a huge number of fire nation lightning benders on dragons vs a world full of bloodbending waterbenders on polarbear dogs.
2. As a stat free site it is a narrative way to award our long term members who may be interested in these abilities. It also creates incentives for making certain character archetypes that people rarely think about.
3. Cool powers are awesome, but they shouldn't be the highlight of your character. The characters of the ATLA series all had in depth and interesting back-stories with pretty well rounded personalities to boot.
Q. So why not limit...
Benders
A. Bending is the major attraction to the series, and it would probably kill off half the site if they were limited. Plus I think people underestimate how cool non-benders usually are in ATLA and I don't really see them at a disadvantage. An arrow can travel way faster than anything a bender can throw (other than maybe lightning) and has a much larger distance. Something as silly as a shield could really stop a lot of benders from hurting you before you hit them with a decisive blow from something hard and pointy.
Sky Bison
A. Canonically all Air Nomad monks get one. Seeing as airbender's can fly (with a glider) anyways, all they are really gaining is a group transport option that will encourage group role play.
Alternate Bending (vine and sand)
A. They aren't necessarily harder and they come with the drawback of being almost a different style that the character has to focus on.
Q. When will the season change?
A. The season will typically change after a game wide event takes place. Their is no direct in game correlation between real life time.
Q. When will the Book Change?
A. For the near future, expect Book 2 to begin after the end of summer season event. However keep in mind that some books will last much longer than others (and we are not bound by the number of books found in the show either.)
Q. Will you do time skips?
A. More than likely. The only one that is scheduled as of now is at the end of Book 2, where we will jump one year into the future.
