Kami felt the air change, the cool of the north drifted away and almost instantaneously a warmth filled his body and as each step brought him closer to the centre of the oasis. The warmth spread from deep in his core, outwards coursing throughout his body, each limb and artery filled with what could only be described as a light. He paused as he reached the shallow pool of water and looked down smiling, still feeling the incisional purity of the oasis. Stepping back, the warmth continued to build, hotter still but not burning him, it felt better as the warmth grew it wasn’t an external heat. But a feeling something that touched his very soul and it was as if all the happiness he had ever felt existed in a single glorious crescendo.
By now and for some unknown reason the youth had begun to spin, twirling with tears streaking down his eyes. However no despair was to be felt, but rather a joy and it was a feeling he had felt once before, only once. Then in a moment it disappeared and as the feeling receded he slumped to the ground and landed on all fours leaning over the water watching the pair of fish swim endlessly around one another. It was here, he was at peace, his whole life he had felt drawn to the oasis and often he would come. Sometimes he felt things or heard whispers or saw strange images flash before his eyes, however nothing like that before. Nothing that made him feel as though there was only joy in this world, he had always felt a connection to the spirits and his parents had always told him of strange happenings during his birth.
Looking up he saw the lights, and smiled wondering whether they had anything to do with this strange feeling. They were said to be spirits dancing across the sky and on the eve of him leaving, he wondered whether it was all a sign to send him on his journey of self-discovery. He sat crossing his legs and closing his eyes, taking in the serenity of the oasis and letting the motions of both the moon and the oceans endless circling take him to a place of calm.
