[Outside of Ba Sing Se] Trapped (Wei)

Simply having a good shelter did a lot to raise the spirits. Before, Aang had felt down and almost resigned to return to the Temples. The weather was an unstoppable force that they would have to work against alone. But now he had Wei, who was a good companion. Wei had provided shelter and now they were going to be warm soon. Appa's friendly lick had lightened the mood up as well, so Aang felt warmer on the inside and no longer so concerned about what the future would bring. He could once more focus only on the present.

"Yeah, company's great," Aang grinned at Wei in response to the other boy's words.
"I'm glad you came along, despite this weather," Aang hoped that the storm would pass over them quickly, though. Even with the shelter, it was possible to feel a cold draft coming in from outside and the sound of the rain was hard to ignore. Even as they worked on the fire, the water levels were creeping forwards with no where else to go and the storm showed no signs of letting up.

As the spark flew off from the flint and steel, Aang's eyes lit up with wonder and excitement (although he did jump back in shock at first). The sparks hit the tinder and there was a crackle as a fire was born. Following the Earth Bender's example, Aang gently began to feed the flames air, the nomad's hands carefully manipulating the currents to lightly surround the fire, making sure that the breeze around it was fresh and not harsh enough to threaten the existence of the flames. The joint effort was working and the flames grew steadily until there was a nicely burning fire before them.

With the fire seemingly done, Aang stopped feeding the flames air and looked at Wei.
"Where were you heading before this storm blew over?" The airbender asked as he sat by the fire side, enjoying the warmth that it brought to the shelter. Meanwhile the water outside was rising, coming from behind the stone tent and so unobserved. It was reaching the walls and starting to explore the edges, searching for a way in. Moving finger width by finger width, it crawled closer and closer. It was barely a few millimetres thick but it was spreading out and slowly rising. It wouldn't be long before the ground was water.
